The City of Moab has developed a Sustainability Action Plan to map out goals and strategies for the equitable pursuit of sustainability and greenhouse gas emissions reduction. The plan was approved by the Moab City Council on Dec. 12, 2023.
Background
Moab is intrinsically connected to its dramatic natural landscapes. Residents and visitors are united by the beauty of our surroundings and the community has a long history of environmental stewardship and sustainability. In 2004, the Environmental Protection Agency recognized Moab as the first Green Power Community. Since then, the City has adopted and worked toward greenhouse gas reduction and 100% renewable electricity goals. The City has also integrated efficiency and renewable electricity in its own operations with LEED certification for the Moab City Center and solar panels on several buildings. This Sustainability Action Plan will integrate and align community-wide sustainability priorities and create an actionable work plan that will reinforce existing efforts and reveal new opportunities.
